Tribal organizations that receive Federal assistance (such as colleges, housing authorities, and other non-profits) are required by the Single Audit Act to obtain a full-scope annual audit. These audits pertain specifically to institutions of higher education and other non-profits that expend at least $300,000 in federal assistance each year, and are designed to promote sound financial management and effective internal controls.
