Matthew Abentroth

Senior Manager

A native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Matt loves that he was able to settle down as an adult in his hometown. “I like being close to family and friends, it’s a great place to raise a family, and I am able to attend UND sporting events,” he explained. Matt and his wife, Sarah, have four daughters, Avery, Britta, and identical twins Cate and Cora. In his free time, Matt enjoys playing golf, both watching and playing sports, and participating in fantasy football. When he has the opportunity to travel, his favorite destination is Las Vegas.

As a recent college graduate, Matt established his professional accounting career with Drees Riskey & Vallager in 2009. He was still with the firm in 2015 when it merged with Brady Martz. As a senior manager in the firm’s Tax Department, Matt works with individuals, corporations, and partnerships. He performs tax planning and consulting work and also compiles and reviews financial statements. Matt holds a versatile skill set—he works on everything from multi-state corporate tax returns to complex individual tax returns.

Providing great client service through communication and focus on details is Matt’s primary goal. His clients and colleagues alike appreciate that he is dependable and detail oriented. In fact, Matt considers his hard work and attention to detail to be the primary contributors to his career success. Matt’s favorite quote does a good job of summing up his perspective on work: “If you don’t have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?”
